How Long Do Crowns Last?

old man thinking

A porcelain crown is designed to restore the functionality and appearance of a damaged tooth. Whereas porcelain veneers are used to improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth, a dental crown is used to restore and strengthen tooth structure. Consequently, crowns are intended to provide long-term, durable protection and support to a weakened tooth.

At the Fawcett Center for Dentistry, our cosmetic dentist can create custom, high-quality crowns using the chairside CEREC® system. These all-ceramic crowns give our patients the convenience of having the porcelain crown procedure completed in one office visit rather than waiting for the restoration to return from a third-party laboratory. CEREC® crowns can also provide effective tooth rejuvenation without sacrificing durability. Dr. Fawcett will help determine which type of crown is best suited for your needs during the consultation process, but regardless of which type of crown you receive, the restoration can last for a decade or more when cared for properly. Scheduling routine oral exams and avoiding habits that may harm crowns may extend the lifespan of a dental crown and also allow for early detection of crown or tooth damage.
