Oral Exams and Cleanings
Regular dental cleanings can reduce the chances of developing severe problems with your teeth and gums. We use a self-contained water system and a comprehensive approach to teeth cleanings at the Fawcett Center for Dentistry in order to help you keep decay and gum disease at bay. As with oral exams, dental cleanings should be performed at least twice each year so that you can maintain good oral health for a long time to come.
Oral exams at our office include the latest advances in technology such as Diagnodent™ and intraoral cameras to make your evaluation as comfortable and precise as possible. Your teeth and gums will be thoroughly examined, and if any problems are found, our dental team will recommend a customized treatment plan to help you maintain excellent oral health.
Your oral exam will include an oral cancer screening to make sure you are free of any signs of pre-cancerous or cancerous areas inside your mouth. Early diagnosis and treatment is vital to reduce your risk of life-threatening oral cancer. Oral examinations may also include a screening for TMJ disorder for patients who are experiencing symptoms of that condition.
Dr. Fawcett recommends at least two oral exams each year to make sure there are no issues and to prevent worse dental problems down the road.
Injuries to your teeth and gums, severe pain, and other issues may constitute a dental emergency – and our dental team can be of immediate assistance in these cases. We have a support system standing by in the event of a dental emergency that can help if you need urgent dental care. Please call (281) 440-6648 if you feel you are experiencing a dental emergency.
You probably remember regular fluoride rinses you may have been required to take during elementary school. These treatments are just as important today as they were then, offering you a quick and easy way to help prevent cavities and fight tooth decay. We offer oral fluoride rinses here at our practice to provide even greater protection against bacteria along your teeth and gums.
The Fawcett Center for Dentistry has made infection control a top priority of our office. We use disposable materials whenever possible, and our reusable equipment is sterilized for each patient. Our dental team meets or exceeds OSHA standards to ensure all of our patients are treated in a safe and clean environment.
Dr. Fawcett oversees a mercury-free practice here in Houston. We are committed to offering patients the safest treatment possible, as well as reducing the use of materials that may be harmful to the environment. Procedures such as dental fillings used to involve materials containing certain levels of mercury, a substance that has been found to increase health risks. Material containing mercury also required special methods of disposal. We do not use mercury-based materials in any of our treatments at the Fawcett Center for Dentistry.
Many patients experience a long period of numbness after treatment due to the effects of a local anesthetic used during the procedure. OraVerse® is designed to reduce the lingering effects of local anesthesia and cut the time you feel numb by about half. This can help you to talk, chew, and smile more quickly after treatment, particularly after procedures where heavy doses of local numbing agents are necessary.
Dental sealants provide a strong layer of protection from the development of cavities and decay on the back teeth. The durable sealant material is placed onto the tooth’s surface to guard against bacteria that can enter into small crevices along the teeth. This procedure is often performed in children to give them years of protection against tooth decay.
